Decent Work and Youth Employment: “Challenges, Strategies and Perspectives!” PDF Print E-mail

Invitation to a Panel Discussion on September 19 in Brussels

The International Young Christian Workers (IYCW) wishes to invite you to join us for a panel discussion: “Decent Work and Youth Employment: “Challenges, Strategies and Perspectives!”

Arlindo de Oliveira and Jan Dereymaeker, two worker activists committed in the struggle for decent work and youth employment will moderate the panel discussion.

Mgr. Jean-Pierre Delville, Bishop of Liege, will be with us to present his view at the opening session on decent work and youth employment. Maria Tsirantonaki, from the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), will share her expertise on trade unions and their struggle on youth employment. From the IYCW, Isak Krampona, general secretary, will describe the work of the movement on decent work and dignified life for young workers.

Our other eight panelists will be divided into 2 panels. The first group will include Jeroen Roskam, South-North cooperation coordinator of World Solidarity; Guy Tordeur, ACV-CSC general secretary; Stefan Gigacz, a former IYCW International Team member who is doing a PhD on Cardijn at Vatican II; and the representative from the ILO Geneva. They will share their expertise on decent work with young workers in Europe and around the world.

In the afternoon session (second group), Claude Rolin, member of European Parliament; Gertrud Cacel, secretary general of the German Commission of Justice and Peace; Irene Wintermayr, policy and program officer of ILO Brussels; and Sarah Prenger, coordinator of the European YCW, will debate on Youth Employment, its challenges, strategies and perspectives!

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear about an extraordinary and concrete struggle for better life. Here we will speak out for the employment and equality of young workers, women and men all around the globe. We hope you will participate in this dynamic exchange of ideas where we will explore the role of young workers at the intersection of decent work, policies and workers’ rights in repressed societies. Please read our concept note on the topic.

The panel discussion will begin at 9:00am on Friday, September 19th, 2014 and will go on until 5:30pm. The event will be held at: MOC–ACV-CSC Building (Aeropolis I) – Haachtsesteenweg 579 (Room 3-4), 1030 Brussels, Belgium.
